Opened on April 29, 2007, the district features the architectural style of the Republican era on the outside while embodying cutting-edge fashion concepts within. If the success of Nanjing 1912 is partly due to leveraging historic mansions and Republican-era architecture to create a fashionable culture, then 1912 in Wuxi will rely on the culture of the ancient canal to build a trendy leisure corridor.

A number of bars with distinct styles have already settled in Wuxi 1912 District—Gone with the Wind Bar, Moso Bar, A8 Bar, COCO Bar, Baidu Bar, and more. The iconic sculpture of “1912” in Wuxi 1912 District presents an exaggerated artistic representation of the four digits. From a distance, it resembles a sailboat lifting its head proudly, while up close, it looks like playful musical notation. The entire sculpture stands about 7 meters tall and spans approximately 8 meters, made of steel. According to the creators, the name “1912” was chosen because that year marked the dawn of a new chapter in modern Chinese history—an era of unprecedented cultural exchange and integration between China and the West, making it highly fitting for the definition of a cultural bar.
