Beicangmen Silk Warehouse

The Beicangmen Silk Warehouse is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Beicangmen Silk Warehouse is located at No. 37 Beicangmen, Wuxi, situated between Tongyun Road and Xianqian East Road. Built in 1938, it consists of a two-story office building and two three-story silk cocoon warehouses, all featuring sloped roofs, brick-and-wood structures, and exposed-brick exterior walls. Building A is 30 meters wide and 20 meters deep; Building B is 35 meters wide and 20 meters deep; the office building is 19 meters wide across three bays and 12 meters deep across two bays. The total area of the building complex is nearly 6,000 square meters, with each warehouse floor being nearly 5 meters high. The design requirements included light-proofing, wind-proofing, constant temperature and humidity, as well as protection against rats and insects, and the buildings remain well-preserved to this day. These warehouses were used for purchasing and storing silk cocoons, bearing witness to the prosperity of Wuxi’s sericulture and silk reeling industries. In 2006, it was designated as a cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiangsu Province by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province.
