Pufferfish Tower

The Pufferfish Tower is located in Yangzhong City, Jiangsu Province. Shaped like a dazzling, wriggling "pufferfish" (actually a blowfish), clad in brass, it will become the new landmark of Yangzhong upon completion and also serve as a key symbol of the 8th Jiangsu Provincial Garden Expo. According to official media, the Pufferfish Tower is currently the largest irregular-shaped steel structure urban sculpture in China, and its volume sets a world record, with an application for the Guinness World Records underway.

The giant "pufferfish" gazes northward with its two round, bulging eyes. Sunlight reflects off its fish-scale-like copper plates, making the entire structure shimmer. Below the pufferfish’s belly are several large characters: “China Pufferfish Island · Yangzhong.” This "pufferfish" is 90 meters long, 44 meters wide, and 62 meters tall, designed and built proportionally enlarged based on a real pufferfish specimen. The entire structure weighs about 2,100 tons and is assembled from 8,920 copper plates.

The "pufferfish" stands 42 meters above the ground, equivalent to the height of a 15-story building. In the future, visitors will be able to take an elevator directly to the observation platform inside its belly. The interior of the pufferfish is completely hollow and mainly supported by various steel structures, especially around the fish head and tail areas, which are densely packed with steel pipes. The observation platform is located in the middle of the pufferfish’s belly, covering an area of approximately 1,300 square meters. Standing on the platform, visitors can peek through any gap to view the scenery around Xisha Island, as well as the main and auxiliary venues on the opposite shore. At night, with the external LED lighting turned on, this island "pufferfish" changes colors. During the park’s opening period, it will be a major venue for light shows and fireworks displays. After the garden expo park closes, visitors can enter and explore for free.
