The scenic and ecologically rich Dakeng No. 10 Trail in Taichung City has a new highlight: a double-deck Acacia tree viewing platform built beside the trail by the Taichung City Scenic Area Administration. Officially opened on the 27th, it offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the city’s mountain and urban landscapes, enhancing the hiking experience on the Dakeng Trails.
Lin Hsiao-chi, Director of the Taichung City Tourism Bureau, said that the Dakeng hiking trails are among the city’s most popular destinations. The municipal government has constructed a multi-tiered viewing and resting platform on the No. 10 hiking trail, with both the first and second floors offering 360-degree views.
To balance ecological conservation and minimalist design principles, the existing growth space of the Acacia trees has been preserved, while the dense foliage provides natural shade, reducing the need for additional structural materials.
Additionally, a suspension railing and small hanging bridge serve as the sole passage to the upper floor. The outer platform offers sweeping views, while the inner platform allows visitors to admire the Acacia trees up close.
The Taichung City Scenic Area Administration allocated funds to renovate the Dakeng hiking trails, upgrading unrestored sections of Trails No. 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10. The project also includes the construction of a public restroom on Trail No. 9-1, as well as improvements to signage and guided tour facilities across all trails.
