Zhenjiang Xiangshan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xiangshan, part of the Ningzhen Mountain Range, is located within Gaozi. At the foot of the mountain stands a temple originally built during the Tang Dynasty. Although it may not be as famous as temples like Linggu Temple, it is quite extraordinary—the very existence of this temple attests to the prosperity of Gaozi during the Tang era. This is Xiangshan Temple. Historical Background During the Tang Dynasty, Gaozi flourished due to its strategic port location, becoming a key hub in the Jianghuai region. “Light passenger and cargo traffic, postal relays, grain transport, and military dispatches all passed through this route.” Two notable figures from the Tang Dynasty left their mark in Gaozi: the renowned general Yu Chijingde, who funded the construction of Dongfang Bridge, and the virtuous court official Wei Zheng, who retreated to the mountains of Gaozi following the Xuanwu Gate Incident. Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, personally traveled to Gaozi to invite Wei Zheng to serve in a prominent government position. Deeply moved by the emperor’s sincerity in seeking talent, Wei Zheng specially built the Jiejia Pavilion at a site in Gaozi. As a result, the area was named Tangjia Village.

Buddhism had many followers during the Tang Dynasty, so building a temple near the bustling Gaozi Port was widely supported. One day, travelers who had just disembarked suddenly noticed a yellow-walled, green-tiled temple that had appeared at the foot of the lush green Xiangshan Mountain. Devout Buddhists eagerly made their way to this ancient Xiangshan Temple to worship, pray for blessings, and seek good fortune.
