Baiyangdian is situated in Baoding, Hebei Province, mainly within the Baoding region and partially in Xiong County. It is a national key tourism and open area. Covering a water surface area of 366 square kilometers, it is the largest freshwater lake on the North China Plain. The lake is 189 kilometers south of Shijiazhuang, 162 kilometers north of Beijing, and 155 kilometers east of Tianjin, located in the heart of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Baiyangdian is the largest lake on the Haihe Plain of China and is situated in central Hebei Province. Formerly known as Baiyangdian, it is also called West Lake. It was formed by the accumulation of water in the fan-edge depression where the Yongding River and Hutuo River alluvial fans converge at the foot of the Taihang Mountains. There are currently 143 large and small lakes.

Among them, the larger ones include Baiyangdian, Shaochedian, Yangjiao Pond, Chiyu Pond, and Houtang Pond, collectively referred to as Baiyangdian.

It covers an area of 336

square kilometers. It receives water from the north, west, and south via rivers such as the Pu River, Tang River, Cao River, and Zhuolong River. The average water storage capacity is

1.32 billion cubic meters. To control the water level of the lake area, the Zhaolinzhuang Sluice Gate has been built at the natural outflow point in the eastern part of Baiyangdian, drawing water from the southern section of the Daqing River's northern branch, the Nanjuma River, to expand the water source. Due to the high sediment content and severe siltation of the Nanjuma River, the lake area and volume have shown a continuous decreasing trend. The area boasts rich aquatic resources, with over 50 species of freshwater fish, and is famous for its vast reed marshes and thousands of acres of lotus fields, earning it the nickname "Pearl of North China." The legendary story of the aquatic guerrilla team—Yanling Team—during the War of Resistance against Japan is widely known. The lake dried up in 1982 but was replenished after heavy rainfall in 1988, becoming a popular tourist destination. On May 8, 2007, the Anxin Baiyangdian Scenic Area in Baoding City was officially approved by the National Tourism Administration as a National 5A-level Tourist Attraction.
