Liucun Site

The Liucun Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

The Liucun Site is a Neolithic Yangshao culture archaeological site, located 1.5 kilometers west of Anxin County and 300 meters north of Liucun village, 1.5 kilometers south of the Xin’an North Dyke of Baiyangdian Lake. The site is rectangular in shape, measuring 250 meters in length and 200 meters in width, covering an area of 50,000 square meters. The terrain was originally slightly higher than the surrounding area and was referred to by locals as “Gedading.” This site was discovered in the 1950s and later listed among the first group of cultural heritage sites protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

The site is well-preserved. Surface cultural remains scattered across the site include a large number of pottery fragments as well as stone tools, deer antlers, animal bones, and clam shells. In 1986, the Baoding Regional Cultural Relics Management Office and the Anxin County Culture Bureau conducted the first excavation of the Liucun Site. Based on the cultural layer deposits and unearthed artifacts, the upper layer is identified as the later cultural stratum, which yielded a substantial number of pottery fragments. The vessel forms include flanged jars, restricted-mouth jars, red-topped bowls, pots, plates, basins, pottery spoons, pottery supports, and tripod leg components. The lower layer, beneath the upper one, contained fewer pottery fragments, but the main vessel types were largely similar to those found in the upper layer, including pottery jars, basins, cauldrons, stone grinding plates, stone rollers, and supports. Analysis of the excavation data indicates that the Liucun Site is a late Yangshao culture site with elements of Longshan culture. It was designated as a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province in 1982.
