Liangzhuang Site

The Liangzhuang Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Liangzhuang Site is a Neolithic site located about 14 kilometers southeast of Anxin County, more than 100 meters south of Liangzhuang Village. The terrain is low-lying and usually waterlogged, but when the water level is low, the area is used as farmland and has long been overgrown with reeds. The site stretches 400 meters from east to west and 200 meters from north to south, covering an area of 80,000 square meters. Its preservation condition is generally intact. The Liangzhuang Site was discovered in April 1986, during which more than 100 pieces of bone fossils, over 50 fragments of clay pottery and brown pottery mixed with sand, as well as two stone axes were collected. In September of the same year, the Baoding Regional Cultural Relics Management Office, the History Department of Hebei University, and the Anxin County Culture Bureau jointly conducted an archaeological excavation at the site, uncovering an area of 37.5 square meters. The upper cultural layer of the Liangzhuang Site consists of grayish-yellow soil with high viscosity, containing fragments of sand-mixed and clamshell-brown pottery, clay fine pottery, clay gray pottery, as well as red fired earth blocks and animal bones. The lower cultural layer comprises deep grayish-yellow sandy soil that is relatively loose, containing sand-mixed red pottery with nipple motifs, clamshell-mixed brown pottery, and clay red sandy pottery fragments. Based on the unearthed artifacts, the upper layer of the Liangzhuang Site is roughly dated to the early Yangshao culture period.

The site was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province in 1982.
