Suyu Wenchang Square

Suyu Wenchang Square serves as a patriotic education base.

The newly built Suyu Wenchang Square is situated in the center of the Suyu District Education Park, spanning a total area of 11.65 hectares. It was designed by the Southeast University Planning and Design Institute and features an overall oval layout. The square comprises the Wenchang Pavilion, gymnasium, library, youth activity center, and the square itself, with Xuehai Road and Shushan Road running through it. The Wenchang Pavilion is located at the center of the square and is the iconic structure of the entire area. Standing 32.8 meters tall and covering an area of 519.56 square meters, the building has a windmill-shaped floor plan and spirals upward in height, symbolizing the ever-thriving and prosperous future of Suyu.

Entering Wenchang Square from the south, the first thing that catches your eye is the elegant and free-flowing golden characters “Wenchang Square,” engraved on the marble slab in front of the square. Not far ahead, at the steps leading up to the Wenchang Pavilion, the marble ground features a design pattern resembling a computer keyboard, with gray-black marble letters arranged in sequence—an unusual and ingenious design. Above the main entrance of the Wenchang Pavilion are the three ancient and vigorous characters “Wenchang Pavilion,” inscribed by the renowned calligrapher Wei Tianchi. The exterior walls of the tower are clad in marble, while the eaves and roof are covered with traditional small blue tiles, exuding solemnity without losing grandeur, and simplicity without lacking elegance.

Inside the Wenchang Pavilion, the front features a relief sculpture of figures. Ascending the spiral staircase through seven levels leads you to the top of the tower. From the summit, you can take in the full panoramic view of the central area of the Suyu Education Park. Looking to the immediate south, you’ll see the beautiful vocational education buildings and expansive sports fields of the Suyu Vocational Education Group. To the southeast lies the Wenchang Garden residential community, nestled among green trees. To the east, the Wenchang campus of Suyu Middle School faces the square across the road. To the north, the Suyu Library and Reading Center, Tianyi Yuan residential community, and the Education Bureau building stand shoulder to shoulder. To the west, the newly built Cultural and Art Activity Center complements the Wenchang Pavilion. Gazing into the distance, the high-rise buildings of Suyu city rise in close succession, brimming with vitality. The outer ring road resembles a beautiful ribbon connecting Suyu with the outside world, offering a breathtaking view of the endless scenery.
