The Yancheng Sea Salt Historical and Cultural Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, primarily comprising five major sections: the China Sea Salt Museum, Yan Town Water Street, the Chuan Chang River Scenic Belt, Yandu Park, and the Dongjin Road Cultural, Leisure, and Food Plaza. The area spans approximately 1,600 acres in total, with a total investment of 1.3 billion yuan.

The China Sea Salt Museum is located between the historically renowned waterway — the Chuan Chang River Scenic Belt — and the Song Dynasty seawall known as Fan Gong Di, a famous dike. With a total investment of 190 million yuan and a construction area of 18,000 square meters, it systematically presents the development history of sea salt in China and showcases multi-layered cultural scenes of ancient sea salt production and the lives of salt workers.

Yan Town Water Street is an important part of the Sea Salt Historical and Cultural Landscape Area. The entire architectural style features imitation ancient buildings. Over 800 meters of winding riverbanks are lined with pavilions and towers standing by the water. The walls are built with clay grey bricks, the roofs are covered with green tiles or glazed tiles, and the windows and doors are made of aluminum alloy in antique designs, reflecting the charm of Yancheng’s salt-producing region and its water town ambiance. It includes three main zones: the Grand Courtyard Gate, Tian Shui Square, and Yi Shui Tavern, featuring distinctive attractions such as the Shui Yun Pavilion, Piao Zhou Xi Yuan (Floating Boat Theater), and Han Mo Pavilion. There are currently two touring routes: one by boat and one on land. On the water, folk performances such as cormorant fishing are regularly held; the Piao Zhou Xi Yuan showcases local operas, acrobatics, traditional crafts, and folk arts. The area also offers local snacks, travel souvenirs, local specialties, and the four treasures of the study, along with supporting facilities such as restaurants and teahouses, fully demonstrating the unique charm of the water town and the historical culture of sea salt.

The Chuan Chang River is the mother river that runs through downtown Yancheng, carrying the city’s memories. Leveraging its natural spatial and cultural advantages, it integrates the sea salt culture and stories of Yancheng. Each scenic area is built along the Chuan Chang River, including seven major sections: the Memory of Wuyou Ancient Town, the Memory of Creation, the Memory of Local Culture, the Memory of Industry, the Memory of Cultural Continuity, and the Memory of Ecology. Among them, the Memory of Cultural Continuity combines the site of the original old city wall, inheriting the essence of traditional culture. Using modern-style segments of the wall, it interprets and continues the enduring spirit of Yancheng’s culture. Through relief carvings and inscribed texts, the wall on the landscape truly becomes a cultural and spiritual wall.

Yandu Park is currently the largest comprehensive water-green wetland ecological park in Yancheng. Covering a total area of 1,129 acres with a total investment of 360 million yuan, it features 43 uniquely designed traffic and amusement bridges, and more than 30 attractions such as Stone Gate Stepping on Waves, Fountain Theater, and Chuan Chang Charm. The park is dominated by large areas of lakes, lawns, and woods, and is also a large-scale water-themed cultural park.

The Dongjin Road Cultural, Leisure, and Food Plaza is located on the south side of Dongjin Road in the urban area, connecting to Yan Town Water Street to the east and adjacent to Yandu Park to the north. It is a key service industry cluster within the Sea Salt Historical and Cultural Scenic Area.
