Yancheng Science and Technology Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a science education base.

After careful planning and construction, the Yancheng Science and Technology Museum, with a total investment of 160 million yuan, officially opened to the public on May 18, 2009. At that time, a new modern science education base was added to the land of Yancheng, and its iconic building with a contemporary flair also became a beautiful addition to the new urban area of Chengnan New District.

Based on the structural characteristics of the museum, the Yancheng Science and Technology Museum is divided into five functional areas: (1) Permanent Exhibition Area: Located on the second and third floors of the main building, with a total floor area of 8,210 square meters, including 4,240 square meters on the second floor and 3,970 square meters on the third floor. This exhibition area is the basic functional zone of the museum and the main display area for science and technology exhibits. (2) Temporary Exhibition Area: Located on the first floor, with a total floor area of 4,080 square meters. This area mainly provides services for various thematic exhibitions such as science and technology forums, economic and trade fairs, science popularization exhibitions, and science and technology product exhibitions. (3) Training Area: Located on the fourth floor, with a construction area of 4,820 square meters. This area includes a multifunctional conference hall that can accommodate 400 people, an academic lecture hall for 200 people, two expert meeting rooms for 30 people each, and backup exhibition halls. (4) Backup Exhibition Area: Located on the underground first floor, with a construction area of approximately 2,390 square meters. This area serves as a backup exhibition hall and can also be used as a supporting service area. (5) Youth Activity Center: With a construction area of approximately 7,200 square meters, it mainly includes a youth theater, multifunctional classrooms, a library, a restaurant, etc. This area primarily provides spaces for youth fitness, entertainment, and personal interest development. (6) Film and Video Area: Includes a 4D special effects cinema on the first floor and a dome theater inside the spherical building.

The Permanent Exhibition Area is the main exhibit display zone of the museum. Guided by a people-oriented philosophy, this area uses novel display methods, innovative concepts, and interactive educational formats to allow the public to experience the spirit of science and embrace scientific thinking through hands-on engagement. It encapsulates the regional characteristics and economic features of Yancheng, featuring three themed exhibition zones—“Science and Discovery,” “Technology and Innovation,” and “Science and Society”—as well as two special thematic zones: “Children’s Science Park” and “Wetlands and Oceans.”

(1) The “Science and Discovery” zone reflects the content of fundamental sciences, primarily classical physics, revealing the basic laws of the objective world and reviewing humanity’s journey in understanding it. Major exhibits in this zone include holographic sound, sound focusing, optical discs, electrostatic spinning wheels, and “spin faster and faster.”

(2) The “Technology and Innovation” zone highlights high-tech centered around computer technology in the information age, including multimedia technology, mechatronics, communication technology, and virtual reality. It offers visitors an immersive experience in a world of advanced technology, demonstrating how technological progress changes our perception of the world and providing strong visual impact and profound personal experience. Key exhibits include virtual shooting, digital laboratories, the sensor family, talking with the host, robotic dogs, and levitating magnetic spheres.

(3) The “Science and Society” zone introduces how science and technology promote the harmonious development of society. Major exhibits include a typhoon experience, a science restaurant, garbage sorting, a comprehensive human physical fitness test, and an illusion wall.

(4) The “Children’s Science Park” zone allows children to perceive the world and experience science through educational and entertaining exhibits. Major exhibits include virtual fishing, a science maze, a water world, a craft workshop, a smoke escape corridor, and simulated driving.

(5) The “Wetlands and Oceans” exhibition hall showcases the unique natural scenery and mysteries of Yancheng’s coastal mudflats, lakes, and rivers—three types of wetlands in one—through scene creation, multimedia displays, specimen exhibitions, and more. It highlights the distinctive features of the “World of Cranes and Deer, the Capital of Eastern Wetlands,” enhancing people’s longing for a beautiful environment.
