Yancheng People's Park

People's Park is situated in the northwest corner of Yancheng city proper, with a total area of 200 acres, and the Xin Yanggang River lies directly to its north. The natural ecological environment of Yancheng People's Park is enchanting, and its rich cultural and historical appeal is deeply moving. This was the site where the New Fourth Army fought valiantly. Eighty years ago, the army set up an ambush here to repel the Japanese offensive, achieving a major victory over the Japanese forces and making a significant contribution to the triumph of the War of Resistance. In November 1958, the park was officially established and named People's Park. The square at the main entrance provides visitors with a pleasant resting area, adorned with seasonal flowers and flower stands that blend architectural features with nature, creating a sense of returning to simplicity.

People's Park is the only leisure destination in the city with a green coverage rate of 98%. Across nearly 250 acres of land, through scientific planning and artificial landscaping, a natural gem nestled among hills and waters, with lush forests and blooming flowers in all seasons, is situated along the Chuan Chang River. The 4,000-square-meter Baihua Ting scenic area, along with rockeries, corridors, pavilions, towers, seasonal flowers, and ornamental trees, form a cohesive landscape. The 2,766-square-meter Bonsai Garden houses ancient trees, exquisite potted plants, rockeries, and waterside pavilions, creating a garden within a garden — the Xiejie Garden. Within the over 10,000-square-meter Xiaoying Lake main area, white marble bridges, Pipa Pavilion, and waterside pavilions are reflected in the lake. Though artificially constructed, they exude the wild charm of natural ecology. The zoo within the park is the largest in northern Jiangsu, home to over 30 species of nationally protected rare animals such as Siberian tigers, African lions, leopards, black panthers, brown bears, hippos, milu deer, and red-crowned cranes, making it an excellent spot for science education. The amusement area offers over 20 rides catering to people of all ages. More than 100 plant species from various families and genera are scattered throughout the park, filling the air with floral scents and birdsong in every season. The serene environment attracts visitors from far and wide.

People's Park is a beautiful lyric poem, a cup of mellow aromatic wine, a landscape painting, and a textbook of patriotic history.
