Zhu Sheng Cultural Park

A provincial three-star rural tourism destination, located in Beilonggang Subdistrict, Yandu District. Zhu Sheng Cultural Park was established to commemorate Zhu Sheng, a statesman and litterateur from the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. Covering an area of 120,000 square meters with a built-up area of 3,000 square meters, it features attractions such as Zhu Sheng’s Tomb, Zhengde Nunnery, Dongyue Chan Temple, the Five Grains Divine Tree, and Peach Blossom Island. It was renovated and opened to the public on October 5, 2010. In 2013, it was rated as a four-star rural tourism destination in Jiangsu Province by the Provincial Tourism Bureau.

Zhu Sheng (1299–1370), courtesy name Yunsheng, art name Fenglin, was a native of Taishangcun Village, HuiXi, Xiuning, and a clansman of Zhu Xi. Influenced by his father Zhu Xiu, who was both a scholar and a farmer, and his mother Lady Wang, an educated woman from a respectable family, Zhu Sheng developed a love for learning from an early age. He studied under renowned scholars such as Chen Li and Huang Chuwang, and later lectured in his hometown, at Ziyang Academy, Shangshan Academy, Shexian Stone Gate, and Zhengzhuang, earning the title Master Fenglin. Zhu Sheng passed the imperial examination for the xiucai degree at 19, became a juren (presented scholar) at 46, and served as the Confucian School Director of Chizhou Route at 50. Yet he never abandoned farming, as reflected in his verse: “When spring rains soak the earth and green grass thrives, my few acres of mountain fields are ready for the plow.”
