Jintan Gulong Mountain Scenic Area

Gulong Mountain, also known as Wulong Mountain, is located 1.5 kilometers outside the Xiaonan Gate of the city. The mountain rises like a fist, with an elevation of 21.2 meters. It is mostly composed of granite, situated beside the Danjin Canal, and covers an area of over 80 acres. To the south of the mountain lies dense bamboo and lush forests, while to the east of the city stand towering pagodas and temples. Known for its “emerald ribbons encircling the water’s hue and jade-feathered hills stacking in layers,” it has long enjoyed the reputation of the “Layered Greenery of Wulong.”

Major attractions include the Baota Temple, Longshan Pagoda, and Imperial Stele Pavilion. In the seventh year of the Xianchun era (1271) during the Southern Song Dynasty, Emperor Duzong relocated the Mao Shan Academy from the county to this site. When Zhu Yuanzhang led his troops on an eastern campaign in the sixteenth year of the Zhiyuan era (1356) during the Yuan Dynasty, he once stationed here. Zhang Xiangyuan, a scholar of the Ming Dynasty's Jiajing era and a native of the area, wrote in his poem *Spring Clearness: Boating and Ascending Longshan*: “Of all spring days, today is best; with guests I sail where skies are bright. Wild waters greener than dye, green hills seem near to bid me goodnight. Cliff flowers shyly toast my wine, valley birds call my name just right. Returning, fishing boats at dusk, I find my gate flung wide in moonlight.”
