Hua Luogeng Park

Hua Luogeng Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

Hua Luogeng Park was built in 1911 (the third year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty) and was originally a private garden named “Ya Yue Garden.” In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it was renamed “Zhongshan Park” to commemorate the third anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s death. During the Cultural Revolution, it was called “People’s Park.” In 1992, to honor the great mathematician Hua Luogeng, the people of his hometown ceremoniously named it Hua Luogeng Park.

The park features towering ancient trees, lush canopies, interconnected water surfaces, and the dynamic interplay of willow shadows. A blend of old scenes and new sights makes it a perfect place for rest and gatherings.

The ancient city walls and moat tell stories of over 400 years of history, adding a touch of mountain-forest charm without leaving the urban area. Amidst winding pavilions and terraces, leaning on the rails by the pond, whether in the fresh light after morning mist or under the golden glow of sunset, the scenery is spiritually refined and full of a water town ambiance.

As the essence of the park, the Hua Luogeng Memorial Hall was built by the people of his hometown in January 1986, on the first anniversary of Mr. Hua’s passing, to commemorate him. Designed by master architects, the hall blends classical and innovative styles. Surrounded by water on all sides, it features gray tiles, white walls, contrasting lines, and exquisite craftsmanship. The memorial houses a rich collection of exhibits that reveal both breadth and depth. Since its establishment, it has welcomed numerous domestic and international visitors. It has been designated as a “Youth Revolutionary Tradition Education Base,” a “Jiangsu Provincial Patriotic Education Base,” and a “University Moral Education Base.”

Built at the turn of the century, the Century Clock Square is located on the northern side of the park. The entire site is anchored by green lawns, complemented by decorative garden structures that highlight the Century Clock Pavilion, circular stele corridor, and gently extending vegetation, creating a rich background space. The modern design is grand and imposing. The musical fountain and lamp posts on the circular water surface symbolize the call of the new century, inspiring people to strive tirelessly and press forward with determination.
