Over the nearly hundred years since it emerged from the river, Kaisha Island has undergone multiple rounds of dike construction and land reclamation, with slope and embankment protections put in place, giving it considerable capabilities against tides and floods. There is one administrative village on the island, with 450 farming households whose livelihoods have traditionally revolved around agriculture and fishing. The local people are simple and honest. Tongzhou District is currently developing it into an ideal destination for tourism, leisure vacations, and a production base for green food.
