Site of Dantang River

The Site of Dantang River is a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Site of Dantang River is located on the north bank of the Dantang River in the southwest corner of the intersection between Sanshui Avenue and the New Tongyang Canal in Jiangyan City, Taizhou.

The site is rectangular, stretching 282 meters from east to west and 142.5 meters from north to south, covering an area of approximately 40,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 1.5 meters thick. Since 1980, at depths of two to three meters below the surface in this area, artifacts such as ash pits and handled triangular stone knives have been continuously discovered. Most of the site remains well-preserved and has not yet been excavated. Based on field investigations and unearthed relics, it is estimated that the site dates back about 4,000 years. It holds significant archaeological value for understanding prehistoric culture, the formation of the Jianghuai eastern plain, and the study of Jiangyan’s civilization history.

On October 22, 2002, the Site of Dantang River was designated as part of the fifth batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Jiangsu Province.
