Taixing Huangqiao Revolutionary History Memorial Site: Located in Huangqiao Town, Taixing City, Jiangsu Province. It includes the New Fourth Army Huangqiao Battle Memorial Tower, the former site of the New Fourth Army Northern Jiangsu Command, the former site of the headquarters of the New Fourth Army’s 3rd Column, and the burial site of part of General Su Yu’s ashes. In the autumn of 1940, the Northern Jiangsu Command, commanded by Chen Yi as commander and Su Yu as deputy commander, led the famous Huangqiao Battle from Huangqiao. Over 7,000 New Fourth Army soldiers fought fiercely against more than 30,000 Japanese troops for five days, annihilating over 11,000 enemies in one decisive victory. The Huangqiao Battle set a shining example of our army winning against greater odds, achieved the successful rendezvous of the New Fourth Army and the Eighth Route Army, and opened up a new phase in the Central China resistance war.
