Boat Hall

The Boat Hall was built during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty and is part of the garden of Li Xiaobo, a wealthy merchant from Yangzhou. Its carvings are exquisite and its structure is unique. The entire building resembles a large boat, with the bow facing west and the stern facing east. On the south side of the Boat Hall, there is a long row of steps that look like a gangway. As visitors enter the Boat Hall, they feel as if they are inside a grand vessel, with corridors on both sides. Through the glass partition panels, the interior furnishings can be seen. A fan-shaped plaque hangs at the eastern end of the Boat Hall, inscribed with the characters “Canglang Painting Boat.” The roof is a coiled lotus tile roof, delicate and refined. Outside the bow of the boat, there is a flower stand entwined with wisteria vines, whose twisted trunks resemble ropes tying the boat to the shore. The entire Boat Hall looks like an elegantly decorated boat floating amidst flowers and trees.

It was listed as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee in 1957.
