Located in Dongwang Village, Xinghua City, Jiangsu Province, lies a world-class rapeseed flower seascape that allows travelers from around the globe to admire the vast golden fields. Since rapeseed flowers in Jiangsu start blooming as early as the end of February, the ideal visiting period is around mid-April, making the village one of China’s most popular tourist destinations during the Qingming Festival holidays.

Rapeseed, used for making butter and biofuel, has been a traditional agricultural crop since ancient times. Rapeseed farming is not only widespread in Jiangsu Province but also across other parts of China such as Yunnan, Qinghai, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Guizhou, and Sichuan. This has made China the world’s second-largest producer of rapeseed.

The rapeseed fields are actually formed by thousands of small islands nurtured by numerous rivers and lakes, leading locals to name the area the “Qiandao Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area” (Thousand Islands Rapeseed Flower Area). Tourists here can paddle boats or stroll along riverside paths to experience the unique golden sea of rapeseed flowers in Dongwang Village.
