Shangfang Temple

Shangfang Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shangfang Temple is located at the northern end of Wujindang Park in the northern suburbs of Xinghua. The ancient temple was built during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, but unfortunately, it was destroyed in warfare in 1944, leaving no trace of the original structure. In 1996, the municipal government decided to rebuild Shangfang Temple in the Wujindang Scenic Area, reconstructing it in the original architectural style: including the screen wall, mountain gate hall, Heavenly King Hall, Mahavira Hall, scripture depository, lay practitioners’ quarters, meditation rooms, and ordination platform. The temple is bordered on the west by pristine reed marshes and water bodies, forming a natural West Garden and liberation pond. In April 2006, it was rated as one of the “Top Ten Tourist Attractions in Taizhou City.”
