Sun Island Resort is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Sun Island Resort is located on Maolake Island at the confluence of the Mao River and the Taipu River, upstream of the Huangpu River. During the Tang Dynasty's Qianfu era, a monk named Ruhai built a platform in the lake to construct the Mao Pagoda, and dug a well and built a pavilion, naming it the Chengzhao Pagoda Courtyard. The existing five-story brick-and-wood structure of the Mao Pagoda once attracted generations of literati such as Wang Anshi, Xu Xiake, and Zhu Xi, who visited here.

The entire island covers an area of 2,400 acres, featuring picturesque scenery, lush trees, and a green coverage rate of up to 96%, making it a true natural oxygen bar. In 1997, it was rated as one of Shanghai’s Top Ten Tourist Attractions by the Shanghai Municipal Construction Commission. In the same year, it was awarded Five-Star Resort status by the international organization Interval International. In 2002, it was recognized as a 4A-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.

The island currently houses 453 European-style vacation villas, a 36-hole international-standard golf course, and Shanghai’s only certified natural hot spring that extends 208 meters underground, accredited by the National Geological Bureau. With over 30 entertainment options, you can enjoy activities such as go-karting, horseback riding, artificial wave beach pools, tennis, golf driving ranges, hot spring swimming pools, and pottery workshops. After a day of fun, you can also relax at the hot spring SPA wellness center with a soothing bath and massage to rejuvenate your body and mind.

The wave pool on Sun Island is located near the bridge entrance and is an auxiliary facility of the golf club, open to non-members as well. Due to the exclusive nature of the resort, access to the pool is limited, ensuring it never gets overcrowded. The pool is surrounded by artificial landscapes such as elephants, pagodas, and waterfalls, creating a Southeast Asian ambiance. Dining/Accommodation/Shopping: Sun Island International Club offers a variety of dining options including the Peacock Dynasty, Sichuan Restaurant, Local Cuisine Restaurant, Yangxin Hall, and Member’s Restaurant. The largest, the Peacock Dynasty Chinese Restaurant, can accommodate 600 diners at once, with highlights including the medicinal cuisine at Yangxin Hall, local Qingpu dishes at the Local Cuisine Restaurant, and customizable Western buffets. You can also enjoy barbecue on the riverside lawn. The island’s wave pool is open from June to September. Weekdays (Mon–Thu): 60 RMB for adults for two hours, 80 RMB on weekends (Fri–Sun), children half price. Night sessions are uniformly 80 RMB. Hot spring swimming pool: 150 RMB for two hours. Opening Hours: Daytime 9:00–18:30, Night sessions (minimum 30 people) 19:00–21:00.
