Qingpu Rentai Schistosomiasis Control Exhibition Hall
The Qingpu Rentai Schistosomiasis Control Exhibition Hall is a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a patriotic education base.
The Qingpu Rentai Schistosomiasis Control Exhibition Hall was first built in 1973, renovated in 1978, expanded in 1985, and underwent major repairs in 2001. It now covers a total area of nearly 2,000 square meters, with an exhibition hall of 800 square meters, as well as conference and reception rooms. The hall showcases how the people of Qingpu, Shanghai, persevered for 33 years in combining prevention with treatment, adopting comprehensive measures to eliminate snails, treat patients, eradicate the “demon of disease,” benefit the people, and consolidate monitoring achievements. A monument stands in front of the hall, with Mao Zedong’s two poems “Farewell to the God of Plague” inscribed on the front. The exhibition hall is divided into five sections: the first is titled “The Demon Rampant, Homes Deserted,” the second “Care from Leadership, Integrated Prevention and Control,” the third “Strengthening Research, Guiding Prevention,” the fourth “Continuing the Fight, Consolidating Monitoring,” and the fifth “Farewell to the Demon, Benefiting the People.” The hall displays 150 items including photos, charts, and materials, 115 physical exhibits, one set of sculptures, and two sets of models. According to incomplete statistics, from its establishment in 1973 until the major renovation in 2001, the hall received approximately 150,000 domestic and international visitors. Since reopening after the renovation in July 2001, it has welcomed about 16,000 visitors.
