The ruins of Qinglong Town are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The ruins of Qinglong Town, located in Baihe Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai, lie at the boundary between present-day Qingpu and Jiading districts, with the Wusong River to the north. Established in the fifth year of the Tang Dynasty’s Tianbao era (746 AD), the site has long been the focus of academic research primarily based on historical documents and surviving surface structures such as Qinglong Temple and Qinglong Pagoda. The ruins cover an area of approximately 25 square kilometers. Since 2010, archaeological authorities have conducted excavations at the site, uncovering around 1,000 square meters by 2013.

The excavation work was awarded a place on the “Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries of China in 2016.” “Qinglong Town came before Shanghai”—the town was the earliest foreign trade port in the Shanghai area and serves as important evidence of Shanghai’s millennial history. As a significant port along the maritime “Silk Road,” Qinglong Town holds great value for the study of the development of the maritime Silk Road. The discovery of the Longping Temple pagoda foundation also has important historical and scientific significance for the study of ancient pagodas in Shanghai and the wider Jiangnan region.

On April 12, 2017, the ruins of Qinglong Town were selected as one of the Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries of China in 2016. On October 7, 2019, they were included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Baihe Town: Located in the northeastern part of Qingpu, it borders Minhang District to the east, neighbors Xujing and Zhaoxiang towns to the south, borders Zhonggu and another Baihe Town to the west, and faces Jiading District to the north.

By the end of 2005, the town covered a total area of 47.1 square kilometers, including 1,979 hectares of arable land.
