New Fourth Army Slogan Wall

The New Fourth Army Slogan Wall is designated as a patriotic education base.

The New Fourth Army Slogan Wall is located in Baihe Town, at the northern end of the Baihe section of Qingji Highway. The slogans on the wall read: “Consolidate domestic unity and ensure domestic peace!” and “We want peace, oppose civil war!” This revolutionary historical relic is unique in Shanghai and serves as a precious testament to the revolutionary history of Qingpu. In 1994, the slogan wall was designated as a Patriotic Education Base of Qingpu County.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan in August 1945, the New Fourth Army carried out a unified northern withdrawal in accordance with the orders of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Along the way, the Political Department of the New Fourth Army’s Eastern Zhejiang Column swiftly painted dozens of propaganda slogans in front of houses and beside villages such as Baihe (Old Qingpu Town). After the New Fourth Army's northern withdrawal, many of these slogans were destroyed. However, two New Fourth Army propaganda slogans remain clearly visible on the wall of a civilian house in Xiangwan Village, Beixiangmen Pond, Old Qingpu, and on the surrounding wall of the Old Qingpu School.

In April 1990, the Shanghai Cultural Relics Management Committee reinforced the house with stone retaining walls and strengthened the building’s structure. The following year, the Qingpu County Museum erected a protective marker here. The front of the stone tablet is inscribed with: “Qingpu County Cultural Relics Protection Unit – New Fourth Army Propaganda Slogans – Promulgated by Qingpu County People’s Government, July 1995,” while the back provides a brief historical explanation.

Baihe Town: Located in the northeastern part of Qingpu, it borders Minhang District to the east, Xu Jing and Zhaoxiang Towns to the south, Zhonggu and Baihe Towns to the west, and faces Jiading District to the north.
