The Shanghai Qingpu Zhaotun Strawberry Research Institute serves as a patriotic education base.

The Shanghai Qingpu Zhaotun Strawberry Research Institute was founded in May 2000 as a collective enterprise in Baihe Town. The Zhaotun area is known for its strawberry production. The institute combines research, production demonstration, promotion of new varieties and technologies, and brand marketing to boost the thriving development of strawberry cultivation. It is a prominent agricultural enterprise in the locality. From 2003 to 2005, the institute was honored for three consecutive years as one of the “Top Ten Breeding and Cultivation Bases in Qingpu District.” In 2004, it was proudly recognized as the “2001–2003 Shanghai Model Workers’ Collective” and as the “National Spark Program Rural Regional Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Center.”

Covering an area of 180 mu, the Shanghai Qingpu Zhaotun Strawberry Research Institute currently employs 45 staff members, including 15 scientific and technical personnel with college degrees or above. The institute features a 280-square-meter laboratory, a 200-square-meter packaging and cold storage facility, a 2,000-square-meter seedling acclimatization room, 10,000 square meters of specialized seedling breeding greenhouses, 68 mu of Type 6 steel-frame greenhouses, 75 mu of greenhouse sheds, and sells over 5,000 tons of fresh strawberries annually. Utilizing its existing facilities, the institute tissue-cultures 1.5 million high-quality, virus-free seedlings for farmers each year. The institute has established a variety resource nursery, hybrid breeding nursery, selection nursery, foundation seedling nursery, variety exhibition area, demonstration area, and organic strawberry production area.
