Liuxia Ancient Cultural Site

The Liuxia Ancient Cultural Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Shanghai Municipality.

The Liuxia Ancient Cultural Site (LiuxiaGuwenhuaYizhi) is located in Liuxia Village, Zhaoxiang Town, Qingpu County. It was discovered in 1976 during the excavation of the Dianpu River. At a depth of about 1.5 to 2 meters on the riverbank’s cross-section, a layer of grayish-black ancient cultural stratum was exposed, containing ashes, fired earth, animal bones, and ancient pottery fragments. Artifacts unearthed and collected from the river excavation include hard pottery jars with leaf-vein patterns and concave bottoms from the Maqiao Culture of the Xia and Shang periods, large checkered-pattern gray pottery pots, and antler hoe-shaped implements. There were also hard pottery fragments from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods featuring mat, rope, meander, and string patterns, as well as proto-porcelain cups, bowls, and bronze knives.

Zhaoxiang Town: Zhaoxiang Town is situated in the eastern part of Qingpu District. It borders Xujing Town to the east, Sikong Town and Sheshan Town of Songjiang District to the south, Xiayang Subdistrict and Qingdong Farm to the west, and Xianghuaqiao Subdistrict, Zhonggu Town, and Huaxin Town to the north. The town enjoys convenient waterway transportation and well-developed infrastructure. G50 Shanghai–Chongqing Expressway, Line 17 of the rail transit system, National Highway 318, Yinggang East Road, and Songze Avenue run east-west; Jiasong Middle Road, Zhaozhong Highway, and Shan Zhou Highway stretch north-south; and Youdun Port, Dianpu River, and Xintongbo Pond crisscross the area, making it an important water transport hub for Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
