Zhang Lan's Former Residence

Jiyi Li, Lane 321 Yongjia Road, is a modern residential compound built in 1939. No. 8, Lane 321 Yongjia Road, was the former residence of the well-known democratic figure Zhang Lan.

Zhang Lan (1872–1955), male, courtesy name Biaofang, of Han ethnicity, was born in 1872 in Nanchong, Sichuan (today’s Lianchi Township, Xichong County). In 1941, he participated in the founding of the China Democratic Political League (renamed the China Democratic League in 1944). In September 1949, he attended the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and was elected Vice-Chairman of the Central People’s Government and Executive Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. On December 20, at the Fifth Plenary Session of the First Central Committee of the China Democratic League, he was re-elected as Chairman. In 1954, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. That same year, he was also elected Vice-Chairman of the Second National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. In October 1941, following Huang Yanpei, he became Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the China Democratic Political League. He served as Chairman of the Central Executive Committee and then as the First Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League until his death on February 9, 1955, at the age of 83. His works include "On Benevolence and Righteousness," "Four Encouragements and One Admonition," and "Mozi Values Righteousness."

It was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Xuhui District on November 30, 2011, and as a municipal-level protected cultural heritage site on April 4, 2014.
