China (Harbin) Forest Museum

The China (Harbin) Forest Museum is China's first thematic museum dedicated to forests. Currently, only a few comprehensive museums around the world, such as the British Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of Nature and Science in Japan, have thematic exhibition halls focused on forests. The museum is built upon a collection that includes China’s five forest formation groups, 23 forest formations, 185 forest type groups, and over 580 forest types. It is divided into three sections: “Forests and Nature,” “Forests and Humans,” and “Beautiful Forests and Ecological Civilization.” The exhibition hall displays precious items donated from various regions: Fuzhou Zoo contributed a complete specimen of a South China tiger, including its full skin and skeleton; the Xinjiang Forestry Department donated petrified wood over 150 million years old; Pu'er City donated valuable timber specimens such as alpine small-leaved fig. In addition, the exhibits also include tools, furniture, musical instruments, and other items used by humans from their origins to the dawn of civilization.

The opening of the museum will provide a new platform for public education and academic research on forestry, allowing more people to understand and cherish forests. It aims to make the Forest Museum a new landmark of forest culture and a window into ecological civilization.
