The Mao Zedong Inspection Memorial is a classic destination for red tourism.

The Mao Zedong Heilongjiang Inspection Memorial is located at No. 1 Yiyuan Street, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. Originally an European-style residential courtyard, it was built in 1922 by a Russian-descended forest farm owner, Gavaleisky. The complex consists of a main and auxiliary building. The main building has four floors, and the auxiliary building has two. The two buildings are connected via an archway, terrace, and underground passage. To the right of the main building is a tall, bright semi-circular greenhouse, whose roof forms a semi-circular balcony on the second floor. The interior of the building features fireplaces and ceilings decorated with exquisite wood-carved floral designs, exuding elegance and refinement. The layout of the house is meticulously planned, with varying heights that create a distinctive architectural character.

It possesses a strong sense of form and elegant architectural artistry. The courtyard is adorned with flowers, trees, fruit trees, and a fountain pool, offering an extremely tranquil environment.

On February 27, 1950, Mao Zedong, leading the Chinese delegation, arrived in Harbin from Moscow and stayed on the second floor of this building. That evening, he wrote five inscriptions for Songjiang Province (now part of Heilongjiang Province) and Harbin City: “Avoid Bureaucratism,” “Study,” “Strive,” “Develop Production,” and “Study Marxism-Leninism.” To commemorate Mao Zedong’s inspection of Heilongjiang, the residence was turned into a memorial in 1977. Considering that many central leaders had also stayed here during their inspections of Heilongjiang, the memorial was expanded in the summer of 1981 to become the Mao Zedong, [Leader Names], [Leader Names], [Leader Names] Inspection Memorial of Heilongjiang.
