Heilongjiang Provincial Museum Ocean World

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum Ocean World consists of a tropical rainforest, an underwater tunnel, and a marine coral reef, showcasing thousands of rare aquatic creatures from rivers and oceans. These include the endangered Chinese sturgeon from the Yangtze River, the paddlefish from the Mississippi River in the United States, the arapaima known as the "king of the water" from the Amazon River in Brazil, as well as the colorful and diverse coral reef fish from tropical oceans.

The Ocean World covers a total area of 1,500 square meters and is divided into three sections: the tropical rainforest freshwater fish viewing area, the underwater tunnel viewing area, and the coral reef fish viewing area. Over 5,000 live aquatic creatures of more than 200 species from the oceans and rivers call this place home.

The Ocean World provides an opportunity for the people of the Ice City to get close to the sea and offers a window for young students to learn about the ocean.

The small shrimp fish, with razor-sharp sides like arrows and a body covered in transparent armor, known as "bulletproof," can swim standing up or upside down, showing off the flair of "synchronized swimming stars." Various "tang" fish have tails that resemble "surgeon’s scalpels." In one aquarium unit, the largest fish turns out to be a "coward," while there are also cleaner wrasses that "know how to heal," African emperor fish, queen triggerfish, yellow foxface rabbitfish... The bizarre and dazzling underwater world opens the eyes of northerners.

Here, you’ll find the province’s first underwater transparent acrylic glass tunnel. Strolling through it feels like walking inside an underwater crystal palace. Fierce lemon sharks, gentle nurse sharks, beautiful zebra sharks, agile blacktip sharks, and whitetip sharks swim around you. The adorable sea turtles slowly glide by, meeting your gaze. The massive tiger grouper and large humphead snapper prey on smaller fish, allowing you to witness the terrifying reality of survival of the fittest in the ocean. The giant moray eel lurks behind the coral reefs...

Here, you’ll find the province’s first Pacific coral reef community, consisting of sun coral, bubble coral, brain coral, carpet anemone, toadstool leather coral, hermit crabs, sea apples, starfish, sea fans, sea urchins, and more, forming a colorful and dazzling underwater garden. Schools of uniquely shaped and brightly colored coral reef fish shuttle back and forth—there are cowfish with horns on their heads, dogface puffers showing their teeth, needlefish swimming upright, lionfish with flowing “colorful flags,” blue devil damselfish, yellow foxface rabbitfish, red clownfish, green sailfin tang, multicolored butterflyfish, tangs, and puffers...

Special Tip: After visiting the Ocean World, you can also tour the museum’s history and natural exhibitions for free. The museum has been beautifully renovated and is definitely worth a visit.
