Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute
Founded in 1953 and located in the connecting area between Nangang and Taiping districts, Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute is one of China’s key universities.
Affiliated with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the institute is a higher education institution dedicated to training professionals in shipbuilding industry, marine development, and related fields. It has 10 departments, 2 research institutes, 6 research laboratories, 45 teaching and research sections, and 108 specialized laboratories. Five disciplines have the authority to confer doctoral degrees, and 19 disciplines offer master's degrees.
The institute undertakes numerous national scientific research projects, nearly 100 of which have won awards at the National Science Conference and from ministry- or provincial-level authorities for outstanding achievements. It also made significant contributions to the successful testing of China’s first atomic bomb and intercontinental ballistic missile. In 1990, the institute had 803 faculty members, including 300 professors and associate professors. From 1953 to 1990, it trained over 10,000 undergraduates, graduate students, and doctoral candidates for the country.
