Former Site of the Moscow Department Store in Harbin

The former site of the Moscow Department Store in Harbin is located at No. 46 Hongjun Street, Nangang District, Harbin. It currently houses the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum. Built in 1906, the structure consists of two floors above ground and one below, constructed with brick and concrete. It is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The building has a symmetrical zigzag floor plan with 15 independent units, each featuring entrances to both the street and inner courtyards, along with staircases connecting the upper and lower levels. The architecture employs smooth curved wall piers, window openings, and raised flat-domed roofs. The overall form is characterized by five domes atop the roofline that create a highly distinctive silhouette. The long domes and parapets are adorned with Art Nouveau-style ironwork, while the façade is decorated with semicircular windows and pilasters, giving it a strong sense of rhythm. It is a prime example of the Elkoye Art Nouveau architectural style. The courtyard at the rear of the building, as well as the passageways to the north and west, are designated as key protected areas; the sidewalk along the street is a general protected area; and the area within 30 meters surrounding the key and general protected zones is designated as a construction control zone.
