Longmen Stone Fortress

Longmen Stone Fortress is located in the eastern part of the Wudalianchi Global Geopark. Over 900,000 years ago, the volcanic eruptions of East and West Longmen Mountains occurred in the densely forested Wudalianchi area. The surging lava flowed down the slopes like a mighty river, creating a spectacular array of uniquely shaped lava landscapes. Following multiple earthquakes and crustal movements, on the shield-shaped lava plateau at the mountainside level area in the western part of West Longmen Mountain, there is a field of massive boulders of varying sizes, with some rocks having diameters of over 5 meters. As the lava flowed, it ejected numerous stones and pillars—some resembling birds or beasts, others like towers or cones. The most majestic and breathtaking sight is the high, fortress-like stone walls that resemble ancient ramparts. This formation is known as Longmen Stone Fortress, which is divided into Greater and Lesser Longmen Stone Fortresses, covering an area of more than twenty square kilometers. For thousands of years, the “Ancient Tracking Path” blazed by the Daur hunters has been flanked by tall Dazixiang flowers, with wild roses and creeping pines along the roadside. This path is full of wonders and scenic views at every step, extending all the way to the “Ancient Fortress Castle.”
