Five Pools: Ruyi Lake

Ruyi Lake (Fifth Pool): With a water area of 15 square kilometers and a depth of 4–6 meters, it is the second largest among the Five Pools. Viewed from afar on Black Dragon Mountain, it resembles a “jade Ruyi.”

It is the convergence point of the entire water system of the Wudalianchi region, yet there are neither inflowing rivers nor visible springs or large fountains—a truly remarkable feature. Another oddity is the sudden appearance of waves without any wind, crashing against the shore with loud roars. The resulting swells make boating impossible. This lake is abundant in “Three Flowers and Five Fish,” and its shores and bed consist of volcanic sand. The long sandy beaches along the lakeshore are ideal natural bathing spots. A poet once praised: “The fairy rocks seal the White Dragon’s head; whether it rests or not, let it be. Let the windless three-foot waves rise as they may, regardless of drought or flood, harvest is secured.”
