The highlight of Lotus Lake is that it is located in Heilongjiang Province, an area often associated with ice and snow, and specifically in Daqing — a very typical industrial city. For those from the northeast who are fond of the charm of southern China’s water towns, there’s no need to travel thousands of miles in the peak of summer just to admire lotus flowers down south. Located south of Lianhuapao Village in Erzhan Town, Zhaoyuan County, Lotus Lake covers an area of 1.2 square kilometers and is divided into east and west sections, which are interconnected. The lotus-growing area spans approximately 7,000 square meters. The lotus flowers typically begin blooming in early July, reach full bloom in August, and wither away by September. During this period, visitors can enjoy three classic poetic scenes of lotus blossoms described in ancient literature — the tender “tiny lotus shoots just showing their pointed tips,” the elegant “washing in clear ripples yet not vulgar,” and the evocative “autumn remnants listening to the rain” in early fall.
