Daqing Petroleum Museum

Daqing Petroleum Museum is locally known as the “Underground Palace.” It is located in the Daqing Oilfield Development Science Experiment Exhibition Hall on Central Avenue, Raohe District. If you come to Daqing and ask where the Underground Palace is, there is probably no local who doesn’t know. It officially opened to the public on September 16, 1995. In 1996, the museum was designated as a “National Patriotic Education Base for Primary and Secondary Schools” by a joint decision of the State Education Commission, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, and the General Political Department of the People’s Liberation Army. It currently receives around 40,000 to 50,000 visitors annually, and since its establishment, it has accumulated over one million visitors.

The current museum covers an area of more than 7,000 square meters and is a beautiful three-story building with a total construction area of over 10,000 square meters. In September 1995, the museum underwent renovation, adding sections such as the Chemical Industry Exhibition Hall and dinosaur fossils. The museum fully showcases the oil and gas exploration, current oilfield development, and the glorious history of petroleum production in the Daqing Oilfield. It presents the complex and profound science of petroleum and petroleum production technology in a clear and accessible manner, providing visitors with genuine inspiration and education. To this end, the museum has set up 35 electric models, displays 1,280 cores, fossils, and mineral specimens, 527 other physical objects, 282 technical charts, 2 large and medium-sized electronic screens, and 25 models. To further enhance the visitor experience, a huge sand table model titled “Daqing Oilfield Surface Construction Model (showing parts of the oilfield, Longnan Residential Area, and the Oilfield Injection Plant)” is displayed in the main exhibition hall. Additionally, an underground oil reservoir model of the oilfield has been built in the courtyard, allowing visitors to go inside and observe the conditions of oil storage and the basic process of crude oil surfacing, making everything clear at a glance.
