Daqing Zhengfa Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Zhengfa Temple is located in Gaijiatun, Ranghulu District, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. It was initiated by Master Shengdao in 1990, approved for construction by the government in 1992, and laid its foundation on June 15, 1994. This marked the first establishment of a Buddhist temple in Daqing.

Lay devotee Wang Guizhen, undeterred by her illness and fearless of wind and rain, devoted all her free time to organizing and overseeing construction, ensuring quality control. The Li Jingyang family of lay devotees attended every Dharma assembly, contributing tirelessly and without complaint to the temple’s development. Lay devotee Wang Shuzhen offered valuable advice, acting as a bridge between the temple and local authorities to help coordinate relationships. Many other devotees also contributed quietly, their numbers too many to count.

The project has now been completed with structures including the mountain gate, Hall of Three Saints, meditation hall, dining hall, and monks’ quarters, covering a total area of 10,000 square meters. The temple is surrounded by gardens on three sides and faces the street on the other, with trees all around creating a pleasant landscape. The mountain gate features a traditional hip-and-gable roof design with one high and two lower sections; the main gate is 4.5 meters tall and the side gates 3.3 meters. The gatehouse is topped with an exquisite small round pagoda about 1 meter high, and the beam behind is adorned with a row of carved birds and animals. The central shrine of the Hall of Three Saints houses statues of the Three Western Saints, each 1.7 meters tall, flanked by statues of Skanda and Sangharama Bodhisattvas, each 1.75 meters tall, with a bell and drum placed behind the bodhisattvas.

The interior is designed with modern decor, featuring colorful lotus lamps that create a radiant and splendid atmosphere. The meditation hall enshrines a 2.2-meter-tall statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, solemn and majestic. An annual summer meditation retreat (Zhengqi Qi) is held here. The monks’ quarters consist of 15 rooms covering 417 square meters, with standardized living supplies for the 12 resident monks. The distribution area offers Mahayana scriptures and Buddha statues at cost price, without any markup, to benefit devotees and promote the Dharma. The temple also houses a large bell inscribed with the Great Compassion Mantra, Heart Sutra, and bell-chiming verses. The surrounding wall, made entirely of yellow bricks, stands 2.16 meters high and features large characters reading “Namo Amitabha Buddha” and “Dharma Wheel Turns Constantly,” presenting an impressive sight.

Zhengfa Temple is a vibrant nunnery. The nuns here delve into Buddhist scriptures, practice meditation, study religious policies, propagate the Dharma, and engage in charitable activities.
