Heilongjiang Huachuan National Forest Park is a national-level forest park.

Heilongjiang Huachuan National Forest Park is located within Huachuan County. The park covers a total area of 7,850.9 hectares and consists of two sections: the Wanjing Mountain section and the Wali Hutun Ancient City section. The Wanjing Mountain section includes parts of the management areas of the Hengtoushan Forest Farm and the Laopinggang Forest Farm under the Huachuan County Forestry Bureau, among which the Hengtoushan Forest Farm section covers an area of 1,417 hectares, and the Laopinggang Forest Farm section covers 2,945.9 hectares; the Wali Hutun Ancient City section spans 3,488 hectares, bordering Wanlihe Village to the east, the boundary between the Lingdangmai River and the Songhua River to the west, the embankment of the Songhua River to the south, and connecting to the 23rd Brigade of Jiangchuan Farm to the north. This section includes a total of eight islands and the Wali Hutun Ancient City.

There are relatively few national-level forest parks within our city’s jurisdiction, with only four currently established. Among them, Huachuan National Forest Park best represents the forest ecosystem characteristics of the Wandashan Mountain range. It features diverse forest vegetation types and high biodiversity, making it an important base for studying the ecological features of the Wandashan forest system. The park contains large areas of riverside wetlands, including eight islands in the river, which are distinctive and serve as ideal locations for popular science education on wetland ecological culture. Within the park are also historical sites from the Han and Wei periods, such as the Xianbei cave dwellings and the Wali Hutun Ancient City—one of the Five States of the Jin Dynasty—indicating early human activity in the region. These human activities were closely linked to the area’s natural environmental conditions, resulting in an early pattern of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. This represents a significant ecological and cultural heritage.

As early as 2010, Huachuan County identified the development of “characteristic tourism” as a priority. The establishment of a national-level forest park is of great significance for forming a pillar industry in tourism and achieving the strategic goals of tourism development.
