Great Bodhi Temple

The Great Bodhi Temple is located in Jixian County, Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. The current abbot of the Great Bodhi Temple is Venerable Zhengxiu, who also serves as the President of the Buddhist Association of Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province, and as a member of the Shuangyashan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

The temple was founded in 1993 and is a practice site dedicated to the Medicine Buddha tradition. It currently includes the Mountain Gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, the Jade Buddha Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, the Hall of the Three Saints of the East, the Hall of the Three Saints of the West, the Scripture Depository, the Dining Hall, the Monks’ Quarters, a Buddhist college, and more.

On the first day of the seventh lunar month in 1998, the temple held a grand consecration ceremony for all its Buddha statues. Tens of thousands of eminent monks and devotees came to offer incense and worship, creating an unprecedentedly magnificent scene. The temple houses one relic of Sakyamuni Buddha and one relic of Master Xuyun.

There are three stone steles: the Temple History Stele, the Merit Stele, and the Heart Sutra Stele. The temple also treasures one complete set of the Taisho Tripitaka. A newly constructed Ten Thousand Buddhas Medicine Buddha Lapis Tower stands atop a mountain 500 meters away from the temple. The mountain is lush with flowers, plants, and trees, offering a spectacular view. The tower is 49 meters tall, has seven stories, is hexagonal in shape, and features flying eaves and brackets on each level. Its structure is made of reinforced concrete, making it very sturdy. The abbot of the Buddhist Association of China, Venerable Master Yicheng, personally inscribed the plaque for the Ten Thousand Buddhas Tower. The consecration ceremony for the tower was held in August 2007. This tower leaves behind a millennia-old heritage for the nation.
