Dongfanghong Wetland National Nature Reserve is located in Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province. Dongfanghong Wetland National Nature Reserve was established in August 2001 with the approval of the State Forestry Administration and the provincial government. The reserve borders Xiaomuhekou on the Sanxiao Highway to the south, extends to the northern boundary of the Datashan Forest Farm to the north, lies adjacent to the Huyao Highway to the west, and faces Russia across the Ussuri River to the east.

The total area of the reserve is 46,618 hectares. It aims to protect all the wildlife, plants, aquatic organisms, and their habitats within the reserve.

The focus of protection is on the natural wetland ecosystem and nationally key protected animal species and their habitats. It is a comprehensive nature reserve primarily dedicated to the protection of marsh wetland ecosystems and biodiversity. The reserve integrates multiple functions including ecological conservation, scientific research and monitoring, academic research, resource management, eco-tourism, public education, and biodiversity protection.
