How to get home after New Year’s Eve? A lazy guide to post-celebration transport across Taipei, Central, and Southern Taiwan

2015 is entering its final countdown. While you’re enjoying tonight’s New Year’s Eve festivities, “how to get home” is also a major concern for many. Below is a compilation of post-celebration transport info for Northern, Central, and Southern Taiwan to help you head home as quickly as possible.

Taipei City New Year's Eve Locations: Taipei City Hall Plaza, Taipei 101 Fireworks Show

Taipei Metro will extend its operating hours until 3:00 AM and has planned four metro dispersal routes:
1. Heading toward Banqiao, Xinzhuang, Luzhou:It is recommended to walk to “National Father Memorial Hall Station” to enter the station; walking time is about 10–15 minutes.
2. Heading toward Nangang, Neihu:It is recommended to walk to “Yongchun Station” to enter the station; walking time is about 20–25 minutes.
3. Heading toward Tamsui, Zhongyonghe:It is recommended to walk to “Xinyi Anhe Station” or “Xiangshan Station” to enter the station; walking time is about 10–15 minutes.
4. Heading toward Xindian:It is recommended to walk to “Nanjing Sanmin Station” to enter the station; walking time is about 20–25 minutes.

% Buses on most regular routes will also run one more trip than usual. In addition to specific bus routes, all New Year’s Eve buses will operate until 2:00 AM on January 1. The Taipei City Department of Economic Development has also arranged four dispersal shuttle buses:

Route 1, to “Metro Nanjing Fuxing Station”
Boarding location: East side slow lane of Guangfu S. Rd (between Civic Blvd and Nanjing E. Rd)
Route 2, to Metro “Taipei Main Station”
Boarding location: Bus-only lane and slow lane on the north side of Ren’ai Rd (between Yanji St and Dunhua S. Rd)
Route 3,
to Metro “Gongguan Station” Boarding location: Slow lane on the west side of Section 2, Keelung Rd (between Wenchang St and Guangfu S. Rd)
Route 4, to “Muzha, Jingmei area”
Boarding location: Slow lane on the west side of Songde Rd (between Hulin St and Xinyi Rd)

Taichung City New Year's Eve Locations: Taiwan Sports University Stadium and Fengyuan Stadium

1. BRT Blue Line extended operating hours until 2:00 AM on January 1 for dispersal

2. Taichung City buses will add extra services every 15 minutes at “National Taichung University of Science and Technology” Station and “Zhongyou Department Store” Station, with the last bus extended to 2:00 AM.
2. Taichung City buses will increase service to every 15 minutes at the “National Taichung University of Science and Technology” and “Zhongyou Department Store” stops, and extend the last bus service to 2:00 AM.
Route 3.213 Shuttle Bus "Fengyuan Bus Terminal – Fengyuan Stadium": From 12:30 AM to 1:30 AM on New Year’s Day, shuttle buses run every 15 minutes to transport the crowds.

Tainan City | New Year’s Eve Location: "Happy New Year’s Eve Party" in front of the Tainan HSR Station

The Tainan City Government has planned two free shuttle bus services starting from 12:00 AM on New Year’s Day:
•"City Government Line":The route follows the HSR Express Bus City Government Line, with flexible dispatching based on passenger volume—buses depart as soon as they are full.
•"Chimei Line":The route follows the HSR Express Bus Chimei Line, with flexible dispatching based on passenger volume—buses depart as soon as they are full.
Passengers should board at the intersection of Guiren Boulevard and Guiren 12th Road. The last bus departs at 1:30 AM and continues until the final passenger is transported.

Taiwan Railways also adds extra trains in coordination with regular schedules starting from 12:00 AM on New Year’s Day:
•"Shalun → Tainan":12:18 AM / 12:36 AM / 12:54 AM (those heading to Kaohsiung may get off at Zhongzhou Station and transfer to the 1:08 AM train to Kaohsiung) / 1:30 AM / 1:50 AM
•"Shalun → Chiayi":1:12 AM
•"Shalun → Tainan → Chiayi":2:08 AM (those heading to Kaohsiung may get off at Zhongzhou and transfer to the 2:38 AM train to Kaohsiung)
•"Tainan → Zhongzhou → Kaohsiung":Departs at 12:55 AM, arrives at Zhongzhou at 1:08 AM, then continues to Kaohsiung
•"Tainan → Zhongzhou → Kaohsiung":Departs at 2:25 AM, arrives at Zhongzhou at 2:38 AM, then continues to Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung | New Year’s Eve Locations: Kaohsiung Dream Mall, E-DA Theme Park, and the Mayday New Year’s Concert at the Kaohsiung World Games Stadium

Kaohsiung MRT announced that both the Red and Orange lines will extend their operating hours, with the last trains departing at 3:00 AM on New Year’s Day. The shortest interval between trains will be 2.5 minutes, and additional services will be added as needed. The first train on New Year’s Day will depart at 4:30 AM to coincide with the flag-raising ceremony.

Transportation options after the "Mayday New Year’s Concert":City buses No. 6, Red 53, and the China Trunk Line will increase frequency and extend service until 2:00 AM on New Year’s Day.
Transportation options after the "E-DA New Year’s Concert":E-DA Bus Lines 8501, 8502, 8503, 8504, 8505, and 8506 will operate until 3:00 AM on New Year’s Day to transport passengers, with flexible dispatching based on crowd levels.

To serve passengers from other counties and cities, Taiwan Railways has also added extra New Year’s Eve services:
"Kaohsiung Station → Northbound to Chiayi":The latest departure time is 1:45 AM on New Year’s Day
"Kaohsiung Station to Pingtung (Southbound)":The latest departure time is 2:35 AM on New Year's Day
