China's largest volcanic waterfall

Also known as "Diaoshuilou Waterfall." For a long time, the Mudan River was a very gentle river, but a volcanic eruption ten thousand years ago rewrote its course. The Quaternary basalt flow formed a natural barrier dam near Diaoshuilou, blocking the river's outlet and raising the water level, which eventually led to the formation of Jingpo Lake, covering over 90 square kilometers.

Jingpo Lake Waterfall is truly breathtaking. Every summer during the flood season, water from Jingpo Lake converges from all directions at the pool’s mouth before suddenly plunging down like countless galloping white horses — a spectacular sight. The roaring, surging waters cascade over the smooth lava bed and tumble down from the fault cliffs, creating a massive waterfall that can reach a width of 200 to 300 meters and a drop of over 20 meters during peak flow. The surreal scene of clouds and snow-like spray stirs excitement in every viewer. Embracing the pure white waterfall is Heishi Pool, where the ochre-red lava amplifies the urgency of the rushing river, a compromise between water and fire, a fusion of icy coldness and searing heat.

Transportation: Jingpo Lake is located southwest of Ning’an City in Heilongjiang Province. From Mudanjiang City, head south through the ancient city of Ning’an, then west to Dongjingcheng, and from there drive 30 kilometers to reach the lake.

Nearby Attractions: About 50 kilometers northwest of the Jingpo Lake Power Plant, near Daghanpao, there is a volcanic group that visitors can explore.
