Dongning Fortress Museum

The Dongning Fortress Museum serves as a patriotic education base.

The Dongning Fortress Museum is located on Xun Mountain, 2 kilometers north of Nanshan Village, Sanchakou Town, Dongning County, Heilongjiang Province. In May 1999, a preparatory office was established, and the "Dongning Fortress Exhibition Hall" was set up in a 300-square-meter warehouse within the underground fortress on Xun Mountain. It officially opened to the public on June 18, 1999. In 2008, the Dongning County People's Government invested 20 million yuan to construct a new historical exhibition hall at the foot of Xun Mountain Fortress in Dongning. It was officially named the Dongning Fortress Museum. The museum covers an area of over 15,000 square meters, consisting of a marble plaza spanning more than 10,000 square meters, 4,000 square meters of green space, and a 1,100-square-meter building. The museum displays over 500 pieces of evidence of the Japanese invasion of China, including weapons and ammunition used by the Japanese invaders, daily necessities, labor tools of Chinese workers, and weapons used by the Soviet Red Army, as well as a series of 400 precious historical photos forming the Dongning Fortress photo exhibition across six sections. At the entrance of Xun Mountain Fortress, there is a monument inscribed with the words “Never Forget National Humiliation, Strengthen Our China” by the Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission for the Dongning Fortress. In the center of the plaza stands the “Soviet Red Army Martyrs Monument” and a monument inscribed with the words “The Last Battlefield of World War II” by the former Vice President of China. On the left side of the plaza is the “Laborers’ Martyrdom Memorial,” and on the right is the “Anti-Japanese Heroes Memorial,” which can accommodate tens of thousands of people for gatherings. On June 10, 1998, the Dongning County Government approved the listing of Dongning Fortress as a county-level cultural relics protection unit. On January 10, 1999, the Heilongjiang Provincial Government approved it as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit and also designated it as a provincial-level patriotic education base and national defense education base. In 2004, the National Tourism Administration approved it as a AA-level scenic spot. In 2005, it was designated as a National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base.

In May 2006, the Dongning Fortress Site Museum was recognized as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
