Traffic control around Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival; city government urges use of public transport

The 2013 Dadaocheng Fireworks will be launched at 20:30–20:50 tomorrow (Saturday) at Yanping Riverside Park. Due to the large number of expected attendees, in addition to traffic controls on water gates, regular roads, expressways, and bridges, the Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems has also planned two shuttle bus routes to transport fireworks viewers. The public is urged to use public transport to avoid traffic congestion.

In response to the crowds and traffic generated by the Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival, the Taipei City Government has implemented a two-phase traffic control plan for surrounding roads. The first phase runs from 18:30 to 23:00, covering the area south of Liangzhou Street, west of Yanping North Road, north of Kaifeng Street, and east of Huanbei Road (including Huanbei Road). Regarding expressways, the Civic Freeway has closed the eastbound ramps at Dongning, Yongji, Guangfu, and Jinshan, and prohibited westbound traffic from exiting at the Huanbei Road ramp.

The second phase runs from 20:00 to 21:30. In addition to the previous control zone, the Zhongxiao Bridge is closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and all westbound traffic on the Civic Freeway is required to exit via the Jianguo North Road ramp onto surface streets. The ramp connecting Taipei Transfer Station to the Civic Freeway will also be closed, while intercity buses will be rerouted to surface roads.

The Taipei City Department of Transportation recommends that drivers use alternative routes in advance to avoid congestion. For crossing bridges, please use Zhongxing Bridge or Taipei Bridge. For north–south travel, consider using Chongqing North–South Road, Zhongshan North–South Road, or Chengde Road.

To transport fireworks viewers, the Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems has planned two dedicated shuttle bus routes: Routes 135 and 136. Route 135 runs from Taipei Main Station East Gate 3 to Zhongxing Hospital (Danshui Water Gate No. 3), while Route 136 runs from Shuanglian Station on the Danshui Line of the MRT to Dadaocheng Wharf (Danshui Water Gate No. 5). Service hours are from 17:00 to 23:00, and both routes operate on a single flat fare.

Given the large crowds visiting the fireworks in previous years, which often caused traffic congestion around water gates, the Taipei City Department of Transportation specifically urges the public to pay attention to control notices. Additionally, bus routes and intercity services at Taipei Transfer Station will be rerouted and service frequency reduced.
