The Dadaocheng Music Valentine’s Day event kicks off this weekend, with traffic control starting at 18:30 and a fireworks show at 20:30

The 2015 Dadaocheng Fireworks will be launched at 20:30 on September 26 (Saturday) in the waters between Water Gates 3 and 5 of the Tamsui River and on the north side of Zhongxiao Bridge. The Taipei City Government Transportation Bureau stated that due to the large number of visitors and vehicles attracted in previous years, in addition to implementing two-phase traffic controls at the water gates, general roads, expressways, and Zhongxiao Bridge, the Yongle Market Station of YouBike will be temporarily suspended from 18:30 to 23:00. The Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems has also planned two shuttle bus lines to transport fireworks spectators. The public is urged to take public transportation to avoid traffic congestion caused by driving themselves.

To manage the crowd of people and vehicles drawn by the Dadaocheng fireworks, Taipei City Government has implemented a two-phase traffic control on surrounding roads:

The first phase is from 18:30 to 23:00
The controlled area includes the region south of Liangzhou Street, west of Yanping North Road, north of Kaifeng Street, and east of the ring road along the Tamsui River (included), with the YouBike Yongle Market Station (located at Minle Street / Lane 233, Nanjing West Road) within the controlled zone also being temporarily suspended from 18:30 to 23:00. As for expressways, the Civic Freeway will close the ramps leading westward from Dongning, Yongji, Guangfu, and Jinshan, and prohibit westbound traffic from exiting via the ramp to the Ring Road along the Tamsui River.

The second phase is from 20:00 to 21:30
In addition to the aforementioned areas, the Zhongxiao Bridge will also be closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Vehicles on the Civic Freeway heading west will be required to exit via the Jianguo North Road ramp to continue on surface streets. The ramp connecting the Taipei Transfer Station to the Civic Freeway will also be closed. Originally scheduled intercity buses will instead operate on surface roads.

The Taipei City Government recommends drivers to use alternative routes in advance to avoid congestion. For bridges leading out of the city, please consider using Zhongxing Bridge or Taipei Bridge, and for north-south travel, use Chongqing North-South Road, Zhongshan North-South Road, or Chengde Road.

Due to traffic controls and the lack of parking for cars and motorcycles at the venue, the public is advised to use public transportation to watch the fireworks. The Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems has planned two special shuttle bus lines for the fireworks event—Lines 135 and 136. Line 135 runs from the East Gate 3 of Taipei Main Station to Zhongxing Hospital (Water Gate 3), and Line 136 runs from Shuanglian Station on the Tamsui MRT Line to Dadaocheng Wharf (Water Gate 5). Service hours are from 15:00 to 23:00, with a flat fare for both lines.

Given the large crowds expected after the show, the public is also advised to walk from Water Gate 5 via Minsheng West Road to Shuanglian MRT Station, or from Water Gate 3 via Zhengzhou Road to Beimen MRT Station or Taipei Main Station. These walks take only about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the MRT. Additionally, the public is encouraged to check in advance for rerouted or reduced bus services and changes at the Taipei Transfer Station to avoid disruptions.
