Yangmùqiáozi Battle Site

The Yangmùqiáozi Battle Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

It is now located at Shadong Station, about three kilometers southwest of Suiyang Town, which is the site of the Forestry Railway Department of the Suiyang Forestry Bureau. Heading twenty-one kilometers south to Yangmù Station, then turning northwest and traveling another four kilometers, you’ll find a sizable clearing in a deep valley — this is the former battlefield where the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces once inflicted a heavy defeat on the puppet Manchukuo mountain forest police unit: Yangmùqiáozi (now known as Desheng). Originally, the area around Yangmùqiáozi was pristine forest, surrounded by towering mountains and dense pine and cypress trees that blocked out the sun. After the Japanese invaders arrived, in order to expand their aggressive ambitions, they ruthlessly exploited the region’s timber resources and established a forestry camp office and a mountain forest police unit here. Tens of thousands of laborers, either deceived into service or forcibly conscripted, were made to carry out concentration camp-style logging work under the bayonets of the Japanese and puppet forces. The lush, verdant primeval forest became tainted with the shadow of fascism, and the once-beautiful landscape lost its luster. After fierce fighting with the enemy at Hongshilazi in Linkou County, over two hundred and sixty soldiers from the Fifth Army of the Second Route of the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces and the Second and Third Divisions of the First Route gathered here. The enemy, deploying several times their number, pursued our troops. Our forces crossed the Binzhou-Suifenhe Railway and shifted toward Dongning District, successfully shaking off the pursuers and arriving near Yangmùqiáozi. In order to resupply, Ji Qing and Chai Shirong formulated a specific battle plan based on information provided by workers, and the unit decided to attack Yangmùqiáozi. The victory at the Battle of Yangmùqiáozi dealt a heavy blow to the enemy. Over ten rifles and handguns, more than a thousand rounds of ammunition, five military horses, and large quantities of grain were captured, and a radio station was destroyed — all while our side suffered no casualties. The Battle of Yangmùqiáozi boosted the public's confidence in resisting the war. People whispered secretly, “If they keep fighting like this, the devils will soon be finished.”
