Changchun Labor Park

Labor Park was first built in 1936 during the Japanese puppet regime period and was originally named “Heshun Park.” It is one of the earliest parks in Changchun and the only park in Erdao District. The park is located at No. 465 Lingdong Road, facing the 108 Foreign Languages School to the south and adjacent to Jilin Avenue to the north. Covering an area of 12.9 hectares, the park includes a water surface of 3.5 hectares. In 2013, the Erdao District Party Committee and District Government invested 40 million yuan to comprehensively upgrade and renovate the park, transforming its style into that of a “classical Chinese garden.” This has made it a comprehensive park offering functions such as sightseeing, leisure, fitness, and entertainment.

[Park Features]

The main attractions of the park include the Seven-Tower Archway, Guotang Gate, North Lake, South Lake, Mingjin Bridge, Lizhen Bridge, TianTai Island, Changxin Pavilion, Yuanheng Bridge, Longchang Island, Yaxin Pavilion, Zele Pavilion, Yuanhuan Corridor, and Three-Tower Archway. The green space in the park covers 68,000 square meters, including 50,000 square meters of lawn. There are 3,954 trees and sub-trees, 1,583 shrubs, 1,500 square meters of wildflowers, and 535 square meters of aquatic plants. Around 100,000 seasonal flowers are planted each year. The park is distinctly divided into dynamic and static zones, offering unique areas such as quiet resting zones, waterside activity zones, children’s play zones, fitness activity zones, and shaded activity zones. Each area is filled with poetic and picturesque scenery, reflecting the refined artistic characteristics of classical gardens—fresh, natural, elegant, tranquil, simple, and graceful. It serves as a public-friendly park for leisure and entertainment, as well as a cultural harbor embodying a slower pace of life with enhanced service facilities.

[Functions and Roles]

As one of the oldest parks in Changchun, Labor Park had been operating under heavy use for decades, resulting in outdated and severely damaged infrastructure, major safety hazards, monotonous lake landscapes, and a lack of layered plant arrangements. These issues could no longer meet visitors’ needs. From the perspective of serving residents' wellbeing, the Erdao District Party Committee and District Government carried out a fully enclosed renovation of the park, giving this old park a complete transformation. The renovation covered roads, paving, archways, pavilions, corridors, towers, performance squares, tree arrays, sports fields, children’s activity areas, lakeside upgrades, waterside platforms, viewing platforms, legal publicity corridors, flower stands, shaded activity areas, ecological wetland islands, lighting, and irrigation systems. The project emphasized both safety and convenience in functionality, as well as overall cohesion and richness in landscape design. Strolling through the park feels like walking through a cultural corridor where history and modernity coexist. After six months of renovation, Labor Park has become a flagship public welfare project in Erdao District and a new cultural landmark.
