Sujia Gang Reservoir

Sujia Gang Reservoir in Yushu City is situated 20 kilometers northwest of the city, in front of Dong Sujia Gang Village, Enyu Township. It is located on the main stream of the Dahuanggou River, with the dam constructed on the upper reaches of the Dahuanggou. The reservoir has a catchment area of 139.5 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 24 million cubic meters. The area along the Dahuanggou boasts flat terrain and fertile soil. The construction of the reservoir has greatly contributed to farmland irrigation, waterlogging control, flood prevention, and fish farming.

The planning proposal for Sujia Gang Reservoir was put forward in 1957. Construction began between 1958 and 1960. The dam is an un-reinforced homogeneous earth-fill dam with a water outlet tunnel installed on the right end, housing two hydroelectric generating units. From 1967 to 1971, supporting engineering designs and constructions were carried out for the reservoir, including slope protection for the earth dam, construction of a spillway tunnel, and repair of the old tunnel.
