Xiangyang Reservoir

Xiangyang Reservoir is located in the downstream valley of Sandao River on the highlands east of Kachia River. The elevation at the top of the plateau is 195.00 meters, while the valley floor is at 181 meters. The valley is about 1 kilometer wide, with flat terrain mostly consisting of cultivated land. The strata that form the plateau mainly belong to the Quaternary Pleistocene system, predominantly loess-like loam.

Xiangyang Reservoir is one of the five medium-sized reservoirs in Yushu City. It was initially named Fenjin Reservoir when first built, but was renamed Xiangyang Reservoir in 1960 due to its location south of Xiangyang Village in Xiangyang Township.

The main body of the reservoir is constructed on the middle reaches of Sandao River, with a catchment area of 67.1 square kilometers, a total storage capacity of 28.77 million cubic meters, a dam length of 1,150 meters, and a maximum dam height of 12 meters. It has a double-barreled spillway tunnel (2×2 meters), and an emergency spillway located at the right end of the dam. Xiangyang Reservoir serves as a key hub for flood control and irrigation along the Sandao River.
